Arthur Margery was a British magician, collector and bookseller.[1]
Margery became interested in conjuring as a young teenager as his father was a student of magic and scientific amusements. His first performance was in 1887, and 10 years later embarked upon his career as a 'society entertainer.'
Margery became friends with Ellis Stanyon, with whom he maintained a close association for his entire life.
Starting around 1901, he began getting into the book selling business. By 1914, Margery was recognized as one of the leading magical booksellers in Britain. In 1924 he published his own 24-page catalog, "Magicana", an illustrated catalogue of books.
Shortly after Margery's death, his entire 8,000 volumes plus collection was sold to the London booksellers Foyles, for only £100. His magazines were purchased at his death by Chris Charlton, and James Findlay procured some playbills from Margery's brother.[2]
