Bill Weldon (1920-2008) held I.B.M. number 10581 (a member of the Order of Merlin Excelsior for over sixty years of continuous membership) and served as president of the Cleveland Ring 23.
Biography
He was very active in and around Cleveland and was a longtime contributor and associate editor of The Linking Ring.
Weldon was an active performer throughout his life. His acts, both stage and close-up, consisted of mostly original routines. He worked his way through Oklahoma University by doing magic shows and the left to join the military. His stage presence caught the attention of the USO, and he spent months touring with his magic doing over 600 shows in seven countries.
After the war, Weldon moved to Cleveland and joined The Cleveland Press as an advertising salesman, where he worked until the paper's folded in 1982. He would use magic as an icebreaker in his sales calls, opening the door to many clients. He began collecting original cartoon art with a magic theme
He worked on a national Nabisco promotion and became one of the area's two Oreo Cookie Magicians. He even created a promotional packet full of Oreo magic tricks. He continued to perform school and civic program well into his seventies.[1]
