Billet Switch is a sleight that exchanges a Billet (a small piece of folded paper) for another one. See also Center Tear.

It was most likely created by mediums in the late 1800s. The term itself appeared in The Magic Wand, vol. 10, no. 10, may 1921, page 17 (A Device for Billet Switching') and was being widely used by magicians by at least 1930.
