Carl Herbert (1880 - ), born in Berlin Germany, but while still but a boy his parents emigrated to America began peforming as a professional magician in the early 1900s.[1]

Herbert built a reputation from performing feats depending solely upon sleight of hand.

The Sphinx reported in 1905 that Herbert joined with John W. Ford doing a comedy absurdity, entitled "Pompey's Success."

Herbert was the first magician that Dorny remembers seeing at an early age. Watching him catch gold fish from the air (Aerial Fishing) sparked his life long interest in magic.[2]. One of his closing numbers was producing eggs from a large, black cloth bag followed by a black bantam rooster.

Conjurers Monthly Magazine Vol 02, No 01 (September 1907) that he was formerly known as Herbert Powell.
