Carlos Barragán was the F.I.S.M. World Champion of Magic Stage Illusion in 1997 Dresden, Germany.

Biography

A third-generation magician, born in Buenos Aires – Argentina, Barragán has been into magic since he was 3 years old.

His new style of stage magic rewarded him countless awards like the "World Magic Champion in Great Illusions FISM´97" (he is the first and only American in history who won this prize that had not been won for 15 years), among more than 25 other national and international awards.

In 1984 he surprised more than 500 guests with the awesome disappearance of the new “Volkswagen Karat” in the Buenos Aires Sheraton Hotel. Brazil, Uruguay, Chile and Paraguay perfectly know about his performances. The Argentinian Television counts him as one of its artists and the renowned TV Channel 9 immortalized one of his doves in its own logo channel.

In 1987 the new born FLASOMA (Latin American Federation of Magic Societies) made real the first Latin American Championship, and Carlos Barragán won the First Prize, so with the awarded show he went to the World Magic Championship FISM´88 Den Haag, Holland, becoming this way the first Argentine magician to compete in a World Magic Championship in General Magic.

Time went by, it was 1995, and Carlos Barragán became the first and only magician in history to perform the main character in a lyric masterpiece, the opera world premier “The Master Poker Player”. The following year the tenor Plácido Domingo sang several songs of this Opera during his visit to Argentina.

1996 arrived and Carlos Barragán won the first edition of the Argentine Grand Prix. The following year, in front of more than 3,000 magicians from all over the world, he triumphed in the FISM World Magic Championship, establishing as the World Magic Champion Stage Illusions, in Dresden Germany. In December 10, 1997, 40,000 spectators were part of the first show in history performed in the “Boca Juniors” soccer stadium. Carlos Barragán, together with the world well-known dancer Julio Bocca and other well-known artists received a long standing ovation in this great Mega Event.

40 years had to pass so that Buenos Aires, in its world famous Corrientes Avenue, had again in theater a full evening Magic Show. The last time for this to happen had been in the hands of the Great FU-MANCHU. In 1998 “Barragán el Mago” (“Barragán the Magician”) settles in the Buenos Aires theater billboard, the First Argentine Magic Musical, thus obtaining not only a new historical landmark, but also establishing a new concept in musical comedies at world-wide level. Carlos Barragán, in the role of the main character and his Magic Team put magic, dance, music and songs together in a full evening magic show for all the family, so that it brought a magic explosion to Argentina.

His inventive, philosophical and emotional thriller-show production, combine illusion and theater, comedy and mystery in a sensual show. His shows and routines are about surprise and dreams, courage and will, touching the emotions of the audience with his new emotional-philosophical magic concept. Carlos Barragán has been enchanting audiences around the world in theaters and TV; he prepared a special show for Prince William and Máxima at the Royal Dutch Wedding in 2002.

He has made tours through Latin America, Mexico, Las Vegas, Europe and China, performing in his own full evening theatrical shows, trade shows, festivals, corporate events and selected private parties…

While staying in the United States, where he spent a long time devoted to the investigation of the new tendencies, he also performed his show in special selected private events. In the summer of 2007, he came back to Argentina, to launch his new show “Carlos Barragán – La Magia” in the city of Mar del Plata. This show was nominated for the Prize "Estrella de Mar 2007" as the Best Summer Season Theater Show. Since then, together with his magic team, he has performed in the Borges Cultural Centre, the "Royal Caribbean International Company Cruise Line", among other theaters and countries (in these shows he has introduced a unique, new, original combination between magic and tango). In 2008 he shot 34 TV special programs for Azteca TV in the City of Mexico.

His new show, "Al limite del Tango", awarded with the “Premios Magia” as the best Magic Ibero American show, has already been enjoyed by more than 50,000 spectators of more than 30 nationalities.

While staying in Buenos Aires; he is developing a solidarity campaign “Thanks to Those Who Preceded Us”. “The Elderly Live the Magic” to give our elders, grandfathers, grandmothers and retired people, specially designed shows.
