Carlton (1881-1942) was the stage name of Arthur Phelps (1881-1942) who performed as "the human hairpin".
Biography
He developed a presentation of the Die Box, which many use today, in 1907. Started off working as a 'barker' for a side-show at the Westminster Aquarium then worked for Jennings, a showman who specialised in illusions. But, found success as a comedy, card magician playing every important tour in the UK and other countries, receiving salaries that no other card magician had been known to get.
