Charles Wicks (1900-1967) was a prolific inventor and contributed many effects to The Linking Ring, the Sphinx, Pentagram and the Magic Wand.

Biography

He became interested in magic in 1911 after watching Harry Houdini dive manacled into the River Yarra. In 1920, he helped found the Melbourne branch of the Australian Society of Magicians (A.S.M.), and in 1925, the Australian Magicians Association. He served as President of the A.S.M. from 1946 to 1950. He also started their monthly magazine, Magic Makers which he edited from 1946 to 1948.

During overseas buying trip for his firm, "Decorative Trimming Company", he become a magic goodwill messenger to the world. He also took up movie film making, was President of the Amateur Cine Society in Melbourne. He recorded great magician's acts, bringing home to Australia highlights of what he saw elsewhere in the world of magic. Another hobby was horse racing and he owned his own race horse which he had named "Cardician".
