Dr. David Lederman, full-time ophthalmologist and amateur magician in New York City, had as patients many notable magicians.

He first saw magic at about age nine, attending a performance of the Thurston Show in New York City, followed in less than a year with Houdini at the Hippodrome. [1]

While at City College of New York in the early 1930's Lederman did magic shows on week-ends. One Christmas he got a job demonstrating magic at Gimbel's department store, where he met and befriended another demonstrator named Francis Carlyle.

Lederman was one of the earliest proponents and experts in micromagic.[2] David Lederman carried a 45-minute closeup magic act in his pocket. He was known for his "thimble rigging" routine, which was a monte done with three small thimbles.[3]

He was close friends with Cardini, Dai Vernon, Slydini and Richard Himber. Among the kids to whom he taught magic were such Ken Krenzel, Howard Schwarzman and Frank Garcia[4]

He belonged to the IBM Ring 26 in New York City and later Ring 50 in Washington, D.C.(where he was considered Dean of D.C. Area Magicians.) He was a member of the Psychic Entertainers Association and was honored at one of their annual gatherings. Lederman was also a member of S.A.M. Parent Assembly, the Magic Circle of London, and an honorary member of the Bombay Magic Club.

Upon his retirement, he moved to Reston, Virginia where he gave free eye examinations to the elderly.
