Dr. Joseph Fries, a Podiatrist, was an amateur magician who performed pocket and parlour magic, music, and lightning cartoons.
Fries was a member S.A.M. Parent Assembly Ring No. 1. and an honorary member of the Magicians' Club.[1]
Fries taught fellow medical professional Irving Desfor in 1931.
In the October 1947, Hugard's MAGIC Monthly, it was reported that Dr. Joe Fries new book would be published soon.
Fries was part of the New York Magic Table, which for over 30 years, magicians would meet at Rosoff's Restaurant near Broadway Monday through Friday at noon.
He also helped initiate the Tannen Magic Jubilee (in 1959?).
In 1980, Fries was honored with "SUPREME ORDER OF HOUDINI" for being a member of SAM for 50 years.
