Edward E. Mishell (1896-1983) was a lawyer, writer, illustrator, and magician.

Biography

Edward Mishell was born in New York City, and raised in Bloomfield, NJ. By 1920, when he was 24 years old, he gave his profession as artist-cartoonist, and was living with his parents in Glen Ridge, NJ. Also in 1920, he married Julia Krause in Newark, NJ. He was a member of the NJ Bar Association, was mentioned in their publications in 1923 and 1957, and practiced as a lawyer in Essex County. He also had a coin store in Maplewood, NJ in 1936. He was a member of Azure Masada Lodge #22 of the Freemasons. He and Julia had two children, Ethel Therese Mishell Beese (1926–1995) and Edward Victor Mishell (1933–1978). Julia died before Edward, and sometime after 1950, he remarried, to Lily Sarah Shack.

Mishell wrote the regular review column "Tricks of the Trade" in Genii for many years, until his death. He illustrated Louis Tannen's catalogs, as well as effects by Richard Himber. He also drew the new cover for Tannen's reprint of "Practical Hypnotism" by Ed Wolff, which had previously been published by Max Holden. He was the National President of the Society of American Magicians from 1972 to 1973.
