Edward Maurice (1894-1964) was an English vaudeville magician born John Edward Maurice.

Biography

He wrote the pamphlet Showmanship and Presentation, published by Goodlife Publications in 1946, after being a professional stage magician for close to 30 years.

His interest in conjuring began at the age of six when he was taken to see Chung Ling Soo. During the War (1914-18) Maurice served in the R.N.A.S. and was an active member of the R.A.F.-Follies concert parties performing tricks. His was credited with the naming of Abra magazine.[1]

Maurice died of a coronary thrombosis.

  • In 1944 became a British Magical Society Gold Medalist
  • In 1945 President of the British Magical Society.

Family

He married Gwen, also his assistant, in 1937.
