Biography

Born George W. Kirkendall, Jr. (aka George W. Kirkendall II) in Pottstown, PA on April 14, 1932 and died in Columbus, OH on September 29, 2001. Was graduated from the University of Akron in Akron, OH. Member of Triangle Lodge #748 F.&A.M, Scottish Rite, Aladdin Shrine and the usual magic organizations. Founded The Magic Hobby Club of Ohio (Columbus, OH) circa 1960.

In performance, known for his trademark red hair and handlebar mustache, theatrical voice, storytelling abilities and biting wit, as well as his dexterity with cards, coins, dice and other close-up items.

Perhaps best known for his "Kirkendall reels," which have been called the finest and quietest Reels ever made, without suffering any loss of strength. He made several styles: the utility (finger-clipped) reel, the vest reel and the double reel. His utility reel was slightly larger than the comparable P&L reel. It is highly sought-after by both collectors and workers alike, as the reel may be repaired by its owner (using Kirkendall's "The Care & Feeding of a Reel" which came with each of his reels). He was also much in demand for specialized reels he manufactured for magicians (Paul Gertner had Kirkendall make one for the credit card gag which was featured in Paul's first or second lecture tour).[1]
