George Linnhauser (1891-1984) was a semi-professional magician in New York City.
Biography
Linnhauser worked for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. He was featured in "The Home Office", the New York organ of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, as "Meet Metropolitan's 'Mandrake'". The story tells that he had been interested in magic 35 years and that every other Sunday he uses his magic to illustrate the minister's sermon at Rugby Congregational Church in Brooklyn. [1]
He also performed at clubs and lodges with a routine from ten to thirty minutes long. His special interest in effects were silks, flowers, cards, and billiard balls. [2]
His wife Alma and daughter Marian were often his assistants.
He was very active in magic societies including Society of Osiris Magicians I.B.M. (No. 137, Order of Merlin Excalibur and Vice-president of the Key Ring in New York City). [3]
Linnhauser was a contributor to a few magic periodicals including Tops and Thayer's Magical Bulletin and was on the cover of Modern_Magician, Vol 1, No. 6 (July/Aug./Sept. 1933).
