Jean Nicholas Ponsin (1801-1863) who was born in Rheims, France was a schoolmaster and amateur magician. Ponsin wrote a book, which was published in 1853,, entitled Nouvelle Magie Blanche Devoilee. His book was used by Hoffmann, together with that of Robert-Houdin, when collecting material for Modern Magic. A translation of those parts of his work not used by Hoffmann was published in 1937 by S.H. Sharpe under the title Ponsin On Conjuring.
