Larry Hess (1903-1975) was a professional magician and owner of Larry Hess Studio of Magic.

Biography

Hess began his career in the late 1920's as "Hess, The Magician, Master of Amazement" and toured with both the Schrine and Keith Circuit theaters.

In the 1940s, he worked as "The Wizard of the North" at Santa's Workshop at the North Pole, Wilmington, New York. [1]

While growing up in Utica New York, he went backstage to meet the Thurston at the age of 12, telling the master that he too wanted to grow up to be a magician.

After leaving Utica Free Academy, Hess worked as a sign painter, a commercial artist, a window decorator for a department store, and then in Utica for the postal service, which he worked for 23 years.

Performing on his time off at clubs, church organizations, and convention gatherings until around 1940, he decided to tackled the magic performing on a full-time basis. He started to play New England, Southern New York and Pennsylvania, before high school audiences. [2]

His wife, known as "Lady Frances" started assisting him in 1934 and later toured with her own act after 1946. [3]
