Prof. Otto Maurer a manufacturer of magical apparatus in America.

Beginning in the 1870s and for over thirty years, Maurer was established at 321 Bowery, New York City. He was the founder of the New York Magical Co., later located at 1460 Broadway, Brooklyn Borough, New York City. He sold props and gave lessons.

His customer and friends included Trewey, Imro Fox, Horace Goldin, Arnold De Biere, E. A. Hendrickson, Frank Ducrot, Herrmann, T. Nelson Downs, Harry Houdini and Howard Thurston.

According to Mr. Selbit's book, The Magician's Handbook, Maurer was the first to teach the Back Palm to American magicians, which he had learned it from a Mexican gambler. This gambler, Morrelliaux Berntz Cortelli, was shown the slight by Dr. James William Elliott, who in turn demonstrated it to Otto Maurer[1]

His business was carried on by his son, Otto Maurer, Jr.[2]
