Rufus grew up in New England and told his friend Robert Parrish that he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to become an electrical engineer. His interest in magic came from meeting Dr. James William Elliott. Rufus never married nor had a family of any kind. He was very active in the magic community and the IBM.
He had lived for the past several years of his life at the Wacker Hotel, where Theo Bamberg and other magicians have made their home, often giving card lessons.
