Janet Box (originally called Slicer and Caterpillar) is a variation of the Sawing a woman in half stage illusion where a person steps into a vertical cabinet, after it is lowered into a horizontal position, a series of blades (nine sets; 18 blades) "slices" them. The sections are split apart while both hands and one foot are always in view of the audience and are moving.
The illusion was designed by Franz Harary while developing illusions for Janet Jackson's tour, around 1988. She never performed the illusion, but Harary still refers to the "Janet Box".[1]
Built by David Mendoza, Harary has sold the rights to a number of other illusionists, including David Copperfield.[2]
