Maskelyne and Cooke
Maskelyne and Cooke were English magicians John Nevil Maskelyne (1839–1917) a watchmaker, and George Alfred Cooke (1825-1905), a cabinet maker, who invented many illusions still performed today.
They made their theatrical debut in 1865 just to expose the the Davenport Brothers and would later bill themselves as "The Royal Illusionists."
Their tenure at the Egyptian Hall saw the introduction of new features for the theatre world of London, including the introduction of a regular 'matinee'. When the lease of Hall ran out, Maskelyne and Cooke had one of the longest runs in London entertainment.[1]
