The Great McEwen (1861-1935) was Peter McEwen, a professional magician by 1899 in United States who became more successful after adding muscle-reading and hypnotism
Biography
He was managed by Felix Blei from 1908 to 1909 before moving to Australia around 1912.
Pauline (Joe Poulin) was often one of his "subjects", who later became a performer himself.
He toured India (possibly in route to Australia) and toured around Australia as late as 1917.[1][2]
He claimed to be a nephew of John Henry Anderson. Although his mother's maiden surname was Kate Anderson, research indicated there was no link between Kate and John Henry Anderson. According to his death certificate, his correct name was Peter (not Phillip) Hartley McEwen and he was born in Hawich, Scotland [3]
