The Sphinx Award began in 1933, awarded by The Directors of The Sphinx for the best published effect in the magazine during that year.
Two silver medals were awarded, one for professional magicians and one for amateurs.[1]
By 1947, awards were made in three classifications: One for the best Stage Effect; one for the best Platform Effect; and one for the best Close-up Effect.
They were awarded annually until the magazine ended in 1953.
Winners
- 1934 : Professional Herman L. Weber for "The Secret Panel"; Amateur Howard Savage for "Mentalists' Handy Code"
