The Spread Pass is an invisible Pass created by Paul LePaul that is executed in the process of closing a spread of cards. The initial spreading of the deck from hand to hand is often motivated by a desire to show that a chosen card is still in the middle of the pack. The deck can also be spread, usually from left hand to right, for a selection, then, once a card has been chosen, the magician breaks the spread, leaving the bottom half (or so) in his left hand, as he invites the spectator to place his card on this block. The Spread Pass is then executed in the act of apparently squaring the right-hand cards onto the left-hand cards.

Where to Learn the Spread Pass

Notes

  • There is another "Spread Pass" described in Royal Road to Card Magic (Hugard and Braue, 1948), in which the cards are spread after the pass is executed. This is an altogether different technique from the LePaul Spread Pass.
