The Fine Art of Magic was first reviewed in Genii 1948 December.

According to Dai Vernon in his Vernon Touch column in the Genii 1971 July, the book is mostly material from Sam Horowitz with Jean Hugard as the ghost writer. Kaplan's response was published on page 44 of Genii 1971 September. In 2019 an expanded 2nd edition was published by Lybrary.com. Warren J. Kaps added source references, credits, and additional routines and variations. The original illustrations by Frances Rigney have been preserved, and additional illustrations for new content have been created by Tony Dunn. The second edition is available as ebook and hardcover.
