In 1982 Adam Fleischer, an 18 year old undergraduate at Columbia University in New York City, (who was also publishing Magic Manuscript), decided to have a magic convention in Manhattan to bring together close-up magicians. Name the New York Magic Symposium, Fleischer and Richard Kaufman decided it would be a good idea to have the convention talent contribute tricks to a book that would serve as a souvenir of the event.
