Asimus gained some fame as a serious magician, under the name of "The Great Merlin." After retiring from active professional work, he changed his style to comedy working club dates as "Mulligan the Magi".
He started out as a reporter for the the Hartford Post, then the Manchester Evening Herald which he was City Editor at the time of his death. Aa a newspaperman, he interviewed magic greats including Herrmann, Kellar and Thurston.
He was constantly trying to make his apparatus for his shows smaller and smaller, until his latest shows were done with all equipment needed in a packing envelope.
He was also an active contributor to several magazines, Esquire, New Yorker, and had written several musical scores. He also had contributed articles to The Linking Ring
Asimus died at the age of 69 following a heart attack at his home.
