He entered magic comparatively late in life. Willane took lessons from Edward Victor and founded the ARCAS magic publishing house.
Bruce Posgate wrote that Will Lane was connected with a family of wholesale fruit businessmen in the Southwest London district. He was a quiet, reserved man, and never spared expense with his hobby of magic.
He performed a comedy "drunk" act,"Immaculate Inebriate" with special effects including a huge candle which grew out of the table and inquisitive rabbit which kept bobbing up and down out of his top hat.
Willane was a member of the Magic Circle of London.
