Danny Rouzer (1919-1984) was a Glamour Photographers and Charter Member of the Magic Castle.
Biography
Danny was member number 34 of the Academy of Magical Arts. He was a portrait photographer but was also noted for his work in figure photography with many magazine credits, including Playboy. In the pre-home video recorder period, largely in the 1970s, The AMA hired Danny to film magic performances from television. This was quite an art at the time and required specialized equipment to kill the flutter which would otherwise be present. Early Johnny Carson shows featuring Ricky Jay and Albert Goshman were recorded in this fashion. These appear to now be lost. As work in the field of portrait photography faded, Danny turned more and more to professional magic. He frequently performed in the Magic Castle Close up Gallery and at events in the Southern California area. Danny got a good audience reaction with lines such as: "I just printed this 20 dollar bill this morning -- yeah, you can still smell the mint." Groans yes, but his dead pan hokeyness put it over. He concluded his nice close up act with the production of a small fishbowl, which fooled a lot of people, including magicians. Walter Daniel Rouzer, Jr. was born in Houston, Texas August 17, 1919 and died in Los Angeles December 31, 1984. He attended the University of Iowa and was a veteran of WWII. Danny's wife, Janet Edgar, was a statuesque former model.
