Fred Roberts (?-d.1941), a pharmacist in Glendale, was an amateur magician and creator of Leipzig's "Creation of Life" effect.
Biography
Roberts spent his early days in a wild section of Oklahoma where he met many gamblers and short change artists.
After moving to California, he became a charter member of the Mystic Twenty-Seven.[1]
He contributed tricks to Sphinx, Magical Bulletin, Magicana New Series. One of his original effects was producing a live moth at his finger tips, published as "THE BIRTH OF THE MOTH" in the Magical Bulletin (July 1919). It was also later published in "Chap's Scrapbook" (September 1939). Leipzig thought it was one of the best effects he had ever seen. Roberts taught him the workings, giving him permission to use it, which Leipzig called "Creation of Life". [2]
