James Randi (b.1928-d.2020), who went by the stage name The Amazing Randi, is a stage magician and scientific skeptic best known as a challenger of paranormal claims and pseudoscience. Born Randall James Hamilton Zwinge in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, he would later become a naturalized American.

Biography

Randi began his career as a magician and stage hypnotist; in 1956, photos of him were used to illustrate "The Key to Hypnotism" by Walter B. Gibson. He then became a debunker of the paranormal. He wrote about the paranormal, skepticism, and the history of magic.

Randi is the founder of the James Randi Educational Foundation (JREF).

He was a frequent guest on the The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and was occasionally featured on the television program Penn & Teller: Bullshit!.
