Frost discusses the interesting life of magicians, without giving away any secrets, concentrating on the impact they had on the entertainment world in general. He wrote two other books relating to magic: "Circus Life and Circus Celebrities" (1875) and "The Old Showmen and the Old London Fairs" (1881).
Some of the topics covered are Alexander, Anderson, Automaton Chess Player, Maskelynes, Bacon, Bull, Beaumont, Blitz, Bosco, Cagliostro, Conjuring of the 16th and 17th Century, Davenport Brothers, Fawkes, Ghost Illusion, Goldfish Trick, Robert-Houdin and Herrmann.
