Living and Dead Test
Living and Dead Test is an effect where the magician discovers the name of the only deceased person that has been written down on slips of paper and mixed up with others names of living persons.
According to Dai Vernon in his Vernon Touch column for Genii 1982 March, Henry Hardin was the originator.
Mike Kanter stated in his Kanter's Magic Shop Catalog (1939) for the effect "No. 1455. The Quick or the Dead" (which sold for 50 cents) that it was originally "conceived by old 'Doctor' Schlossinger many years ago as a spiritualistic trick".
In David Abbott's Book Behind the Scenes with the Mediums (1907), this doctor "Schlessinger" was quote page 222 regarding test of living or dead persons.
