Rev. John W. Kelly (1915-2007) served as national chaplain of the Society of American Magicians for several terms in the 1950s and 1960's.
Biography
He was assigned as an assistant at Boystown, the famous home for boys in Nebraska in 1952.[1] He served as parish priest for churches in a host of Southeast Nebraska communities. When Pius X High School first opened in Lincoln on Oct. 1, 1956, Kelly served as the school’s first principal until spring 1959.[2]
MUM listed him as national chaplain from at least July, 1954 until May, 1963. His address was listed in the SAM registry as "care of St Johns Catholic Church, Plattsmouth, Nebraska". He traveled with his friend Walter Graham to magic conventions in places like Cincinnati and Chicago.
He was a prominent member of the Omaha Magical Society, serving as its president in 1953. Kelly was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.
A reinstatement into the Society of American Magicians for Rev. John W. Kelly of Lincoln, Nebraska appeared in November 1998 is of M-U-M.
