Chandler "Chan" Stevens (c.1917-1997) was an amateur magician who worked for 37 years for the Oregon Employment Division and retired as Personnel Director.

Biography

Stevens became interested in magic at the age 9 and mowed the lawn of a magician in Portland for magic lessons.

Before he was graduated from grade school, he billed himself "Chandler, the World's Youngest Magician" and traveled the city of Portland with a unit show known as Bishop's Vodvil Varieties. The show was produced by Billy Bishop's uncle, and it was on this show that Chandler and Bill met. Chandler taught the future "Bish the Magish" his first feats of magic. [1]

After graduating high school in 1934, he joined the Virgil show as an assistant.[2] before earning his M.A. at the University of Oregon.[3]

During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army and often performed for the troops.

Stevens was a member of the S.A.M., the I.B.M. (number no. 5953), a past president of the P.C.A.M. (1949), and a local magic group called the Portland Society of Magicians.[4]
