Fred Lowe (January 15 1915 - February 1, 1972) was an English magician and magic dealer. He marketed many routines and contributed to many magazines including The Gen, Abra and Pentagram.

Biography

Frederick Royston Lowe, joined the Liverpool police force when he was nineteen, and he was a pilot in the RAF during WWII. His love of magic started when he was in the police, and the public and newspapers called him ‘the magic policeman’ because of all the charity performances he gave.

In 1955, he left the police force and moved down to Hampshire with his wife and two young daughters, Christina and Helen Lowe. He started his magic business ‘Fredlo Developments’ and began creating many close-up tricks (Magic for Connoisseurs) which sold world-wide and are still in demand today - particularly, his precision-made Chinese Coin tricks and Coin Cylinder. He became well-known in the magic circle, becoming President, and impressing other magicians with his lectures (Low Logic) and his many stage performances, which included an original mindreading act with his beautiful wife, Hilary.

He created the card routine (with Paul Marcus) called "Christened Reverse". It was seen by Dave Campbell in 1971 who developed a different method to create "Fred the card" trick (obviously as a dedication to Fred Lowe). It was also reinvented years later by Trevor Duffy as "Phil" the card trick. Ali Bongo also published a version in Abracadabra Vol. 73 (1981) called "A Card Named Fred /Christened Reverse the Second".

His business was transferred to Ken Brooke after his death.
