James L. Holmes (1892-1980), known as "Jimmy", was Dean of International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring #59, an early Society of American Magicians member, and one of the fifty members at the time belonging to the New Haven Magical Society.

Holmes continued to perform as a magician until a short time before his death, after having retired from his regular employment for over seventeen years. He had served with the American Army in World War I in both France and Germany. He often contributed to magic magazines, and was an expert teacher of baton twirling.[1] [2][3]
