Abracadabra Costume and Magic Shop
Abracadabra Costume and Magic Shop in Dayton, Ohio was owned and operated by Sandy Shaner and her sons from 1994 to 2009 located on 1501 E. Fifth Street.[1]
History
Shaner, the wife of magician Bill Shaner (The Amazing Shaner), bought a small costume shop from a close friend and added a showcase of magic. It grew to include 10 cases of magic and books. Stating out as just the wife of a magician who owned the costume and magic shop. Her husband was busy performing so had little for the shop. She soon learned to sell magic you have to demonstrate magic and would get help form member of the local magic club. She also made dove bags, pockets and magic costumes.
The store included a "Rogues Gallery" which featured photos of famous magicians whom Shaner had met or had visited the store.
They started a local magic club at the shop and gave magic lessons, which produced two junior members that won at the Magi-Fest competition.
The shop closed in 2009 when her youngest son passed away, who along with his brother were a big part of the costume end of the shop. Shaner now sells antique letters and flyers from magicians of long ago on eBay.[2]
